Uncle Sam

Most American knows who Uncle Sam is we all know him as a national personification of the United States or also known as the American government. It is reported that this phrase started back during the War of 1812 and the first drawing is dated back to 1852. The character is depicted as an old white man with long hair and a goatee or a bear. He is dressed in clothing that resembles the American Flag and he also wears a big top had that looks like the flag.
This perhaps is America’s most famous icon, but did you know that Uncle Sam is really based on a real man? He was a fat, short and beardless man.

Most people read or see this character in cartoons like the John Bull character that represent the United Kingdom. These two boys have squared off in numerous political cartoons over the years.
